1970s

This was a prolific decade for Peter which included amongst other exhibitions, 5 at the renowned Alwin Gallery alone.

The metamorphosis from abstract painting had truly taken off.  His work was moving more and more from the abstract into finer, more detailed work

Gone were the sometimes dark and turbulent themes of the 1960s, and in their place Peter’s paintings were moving in a more tranquil direction with themes of nostalgia and a bygone era.  The more muted palette of his work at the end of the 60’s continued to develop into the 70’s, complementing his new themes to perfection.

He continued to be spoken of in glowing terms by art critics and magazine publishers alike, one describing him as an ‘obsessive romantic’. It is clear to see why, with Peter capturing elegance and beauty on canvas. The elegance of the ballet dancer, but also the beauty of towns, buildings, and the world around him.

It was perhaps the exquisite embodiment of his subjects during this period which caused Janet Reger, to commission a series of his works on which to base the window displays for her eponymous luxury lingerie brand.
