1980s Overview
1985 - Secret Venice
As with the 1970s the 1980s was a very productive decade with seven exhibitions including one that was a complete a sell-out to one buyer and a substantial commission for a series of paintings around the theme of transport.
The fascination with the Victorian age continued, but this time bringing to life the world of the theatres. The Golden Age exhibition was a ‘world of crimson and red upholstery, the lush interiors of theatres, a world of curvilinear cast iron, baroque plaster, electroliers and the gleaming gilts and golds.’
1981 - A Golden Age
This was followed two years later by ‘Transport of Delight’ the paintings depicted the various modes of transportation in England, during the Victorian era… the horses and carriages, steam launches, balloons, the regatta boats as well as a simple Sunday afternoon stroll through the park.
1982 - Transports of Delight
Peter then had the opportunity to go abroad for the first time to visit South Carolina where he had new American agent. Peter spent his time producing watercolours that would go on to become a series of houses and moments from his surroundings in Savannah. The paintings caught the eye of a tycoon and he commissioned Peter to create a series of paintings on all forms of transport to be hung in his offices across the USA.
1983 - South Carolina
1985 Peter exhibited his Venice collection – the complete exhibition was bought by one collector. Following on from this success Peter was captivated by the interior of the Ritz in London with its floor to ceiling windows, sparkling chandeliers and produced a series of paintings of the dining rooms, Palm Court and the exterior.
1986 - The Ritz
Peter revisited the theme of Venice and Ballet for an exhibition in Skipton and his last exhibition of the decade he produced a beautiful, colourful series on the Edwardian age.
